Abstract
This paper gives a short overview of some current approaches towards including energy aspects into material flow simulation and presents the simulation approach developed in the SimEnergy project which couples discrete event material flow simulation with continuous energy simulation. The implemented solution interconnects the discrete event simulation tool Plant Simulation and MATLAB Simulink as continuous simulation tool. However, the solution is flexible and can be easily adapted to other simulation tools. A use case in the automotive industry is used as a basis for the simulation runs which show dependencies of temperature based deactivation of production machines on the throughput of the production systems.
